2007 ICD-9/ICD-10 Coding eBooks and Manuals
ABOUT ICD-9 and ICD-10 CODES AND MANUALS
The ICD-9-CM system contains three "volumes" of information
that come in one book. Volume 1 contains the diagnosis codes that
every provider needs for billing. Volume 2 is an alphabetical index
of Volume 1. Outpatient diagnostic or treatment centers, like physician
offices, need only Volumes 1 and 2. Volume 3 contains procedure
codes, which are used for billing inpatient hospital stays in the DRG
system. Books that contain Volume 3 are called hospital, payer, or inpatient
editions.
ICD-10-CM is not expected to become a HIPAA mandated
coding system until 2007. However, the system is available in
draft format and in educational volumes.
